NetID is the Colorado State University System electronic identity for students, faculty, and staff. NetID replaced CSU Fort Collins eIDs and CSU Pueblo eAccounts and is now used at both universities.
NetID was introduced to CSU Fort Collins in July 2022 and fully implemented in July 2023. It has also been fully adopted by CSU Pueblo.
The resources on this page have been compiled to inform IT and administrative professionals of the changes for users, data, and administrative features with NetID. For general information, see IT: NetID.
Secondary eIDs migrated to Service Accounts
Secondary eIDs are now NetID service accounts. A NetID service account is a CSU NetID that is owned by a department. This change was completed on May 31, 2023.
Secondary eIDs that were not selected for migration to a service account were deactivated on October 2, 2023.
To view your existing service accounts, log in to the CSU System NetID website and go to Admin/Service Accounts.
For more information, including how to request a new service account, see the NetID Service Account FAQ.
Directory Tables
As of July 21, 2023, the WEID directory table (WEID_DIR_PERSON_00) no longer exists and a view of the same name will point to a transition table. With that, some data and columns within the underlying table will change. This view will be available until July 2024 when all stakeholders will be required to use the new Midpoint Directory table (MIDP_DIRECTORY).
-
How long will WEID_DIR_PERSON_00 in Banner and the CSUG_DIRECTORY* views in the ODS be available?
The replacement view WEID_DIR_PERSON_00 in Banner and CSUG_DIRECTORY, CSUG_DIRECTORY_ALL and CSUG_DIRECTORY_EID in the ODS will be available until July 2024.
-
Will the datatypes in MIDP_DIRECTORY be the same as the data in WEID_DIR_PERSON_00?
No, datatypes, column names, and deleted/added columns differentiate the tables.
See the MIDP_DIRECTORY to WEID_DIR_PERSON_00 spreadsheet for comparisons between the tables.
-
Will WebFocus reports need to be rewritten?
If the reports use CSUG_DIRECTORY, CSUG_DIRECTORY_ALL or CSU_DIRECTORY_EID, they will need to be rewritten prior to July 2024.
-
Will we be able to access records for both CSU in Fort Collins and CSU Pueblo?
No, users should only see either CSU Fort Collins or CSU Pueblo records, depending on what institution they manage information for.
-
Can PIDM still be used to uniquely identify a person/student?
Yes. The PIDM will not change. In WEID_DIR_PERSON_00, the PIDM was found in two places: INT_REF_ID_ARIES and WEID_PIDM. There will now be one column called PIDM.
-
Does the PRIMARY_ASSIGNMENT_FLAG indicate that there may be more than one row for a user in MIDP_DIRECTORY (Banner)?
No. If the person has a single assignment, it will be marked as primary. If there are multiple assignments only the primary one will be marked as primary.

Administrative Access
NetID administrative access is recommended for those who are responsible for supporting students, faculty, and staff in creating or managing their NetID.
For more information, see the NetID Administration FAQ (only visible to NetID Admins after login).
-
Who should have NetID admin access?
You need NetID admin access if you are responsible for supporting CSU faculty, staff and students in using the NetID website, including to activate their NetID, change or recover their NetID password, change their email alias, or access their NetID information.
Student hourly employees working for IT departments should only have read-only NetID admin access.
-
What features are available for each type of administrator?
NetID administrative roles and features:
- Read Only admins can view most user information and reports, but cannot make any data changes.
- Help Desk admins can also add activation and recovery emails and reconcile accounts.
- Partial admins can also update email aliases, reset passwords of compromised accounts, and disable accounts.
- Full admins (Division of IT IAM staff) have additional edit capabilities.
- NetID admin requesters can view their admin requests.
- NetID service account requesters can view existing service accounts and their service account requests.
NetID administrators can view a table comparing administrator roles and privileges at NetID: Administrator Roles and Privileges.
-
What is the process for requesting NetID admin access?
Contact one of the NetID Admin Requesters for your college, department or unit who has permissions to request NetID Admin access for you.
In your request, include the admin name and NetID, admin role, and reason.
-
What are the NetID account lifecycle states and statuses, and how do they compare with eID?
- Awaiting Activation (disabled) – The person is eligible to activate their account but cannot log in yet.
- Active Account (enabled) – The person has activated their account and can log in.
- Expiration Cycle (enabled) – similar to eID “live lag” – The person is no longer affiliated with CSU as a student or employee but can still log in.
- Expired Account (disabled) – similar to eID “dead lag” – After the CSU affiliation ends, the account no longer allows login. The person must re-establish an affiliation.
- Manual Disable (disabled) – similar to eID “closed” or “deactivated” – The account has been manually locked by an administrator for a reason noted on the Person Info page (such as employee termination, request by a former affiliate or retiree, or possibly a compromised account in rare cases).
-
Can NetID admins change someone else’s NetID password?
NetID admin roles cannot change someone else’s password to a specific value.
Partial admins can reset the password to a random value for a compromised account.
On the NetID website, users can change their own password using the View/Update menu > Change Password. Or they can recover their password using the Recover Password tools using their non-CSU recovery email address, which they provided when they activated their NetID account. Forgotten password help questions and answers are not used by the CSU System NetID website.
If a user’s account does not have a functional recovery email address, Help Desk and Partial admins can add a recovery email address to a user account after verifying the user’s identity.
